JACKSON, Harry A. -- Died May 15, 1999 at age 79. Born in Oakland May 23,1918 to Frank and Gertrude Jackson. Preceded in death by brother Kennedy. Husband of 57 years to Betty Lou (Lulu); father of Lindsay Nicholson and Richard Cole Jackson; grandfather of Kendall Nicholson and Joseph Cole Nicholson. BA from U.C. Berkeley and MBA from Stanford University. Member of the Big 'C' Society, Sons of California Pioneers, and Alpha Delta Phi. Served as Naval officer in the Pacific during World War II. President of Jackson Furniture Co., Oakland, creator of the nationally acclaimed 'Pacifica' decor lifestyle in the 1950's, and in 1962 was the first American after World War II to establish a retail business in Japan. Former Deputy Chief of Protocol for the State of California and served as the board chairman at the California College of Arts and Crafts for many years. No services will be held and the family requests that donations be made to the California College of Arts and Crafts and to the Track and Field program c/o Bear Backers at U.C. Berkeley.
